The flugelhorn mouthpiece has a deeper, more conical cup than a trumpet mouthpiece - that shape is what gives the flugelhorn its warm, dark, velvety tone. Using a trumpet mouthpiece on a flugelhorn is possible but will sound brighter and thinner than the instrument is designed to produce.
Flugelhorn players often use a dedicated flugelhorn mouthpiece for the full characteristic sound the instrument is known for in jazz and lyrical ensemble settings.
We carry flugelhorn mouthpieces from Educator-Preferred brands. Not sure what fits your instrument? Our staff plays -- ask us.
