Josias Miguel is a Jazz and Classical Saxophonist who plays a mix of hard bop, Latin jazz, and contemporary jazz. Mr. Miguel has performed at the Lyceum Theater, Copley Symphony Hall, California Center for the Arts Escondido, Temecula Community Theater, and the JEN conference in New Orleans, among other venues.
Native of Vista, California, Mr. Miguel attended public schools and began his music study at the age of seven. From 2012 through 2017, Mr. Miguel attended Palomar College and Mira Costa College, receiving an Associates of Arts degree in Jazz and Commercial Music from Mira Costa College in the spring of 2017.
He graduated from California State University Long Beach's Bob Cole Conservatory of Music with a bachelor's degree in jazz performance in the Spring of 2020, where he studied saxophone with Sal Lozano and Jay Mason and performed with Andy Martin, Bob Sheppard, Tamir Hendelman, and Jeff Hamilton.
Currently teaching saxophone in the San Marcos Unified School District to middle and high school kids, Mr. Miguel also maintains his own private studio to students ranging in age from 8 to adult.
Mr. Miguel is now pursuing his Master of Music in Saxophone Performance at Cal State Fullerton, where he works under acclaimed saxophonist Jeff Ellwood. In the spring of 2023, he intends to finish his studies.
Josias Miguel believes that music has the capacity to change a student's life, and he credits all of his saxophone teachers for guiding him along his musical path. Steve Steinberg, Ben Schacter, Drew Ceccato, Steve Torok, Jay Mason, Sal Lozano, and Jeff Ellwood have all taught Mr. Miguel saxophone in the past.
