Get Good Fast with Private Music Lessons!
Our instructors are highly trained professionals with knowledge of note reading, music theory, ear training and a multitude of musical styles from jazz to classical to heavy metal.
Lessons are held in a one-on-one setting in our in house teaching rooms. Most lessons meet once weekly for 30 minutes. Private lessons offer a level of individual attention that, along with the student’s regular practice, leads to fast improvement. Here at San Diego County Music Exchange, all of our passionate teachers are excited about sharing their experience in music and the arts.
Teachers
Rob Szajkowski - Guitar
Rob graduated from SDSU with a master’s degree in classical guitar and has studied with members of the the legendary “Los Romeros” Quartet. Although he was formally trained in classical guitar, Rob grew up playing rock and blues and has studied jazz with local virtuosos Carol Kaye and Bob Boss.

Lessons are held once weekly for 30 minutes or one hour and cost $30 per 1/2 hour. The student should expect to practice at home 30-60 minutes daily (as a minimum) to show progress.
Rafael Perez - Saxophone

Vern Ryker - Trombone, Brass, Piano, FluteEven before high school graduation and subsequent Music Major training at SD State University, Vern had begun playing professionally in Dixieland, Jazz, brass quintet, symphonic and Gospel gigs from San Diego to Indiana. A wonderful opportunity to travel with the Otis Skillings Quartet was a key association since Otis Skillings played trombone and piano and tutored Vern on both. An audition with the US Army Band won him a position as trombone soloist with the 33rd Army Band in Heidelberg, Germany for three years representing the US at Nato functions. Vern was blessed to play with the Max Greger recording studio in Munich, Germany until discharge in 1969. He began teaching privately until marrying Sheila Rae his wife and best friend of 41 years. He is the father of three incredible people and the grandfather of six also incredible people. Vern has been teaching at the SD County Music Exchange since 1994 specializing in brass and piano teaching. Several of his students have gone on to teach and play music professionally. Vern has also taught in several schools as a clinician and brass instructor. He still plays in two professional bands and is the pianist/musician at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. AND, HE LOVES TEACHING!
